CDL Truck Driving Schools

In order to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) permit and begin training on the road, you'll need to pass a physical exam. The exam is mandatory per the United States Department of Transportation (DOT). To help to ensure safety, DOT has set forth certain physical requirements.

For example, an individual must have 20/40 correctable vision in order to obtain a CDL permit. Corrective lenses are permitted. Needle-dependent diabetics are not permitted to obtain CDL permits. However, diabetics who use diet or oral medications to control diabetes are permitted. As far as blood pressure is concerned, it must be at or under 160/90. Prescription medications used to control blood pressure are allowed for those seeking CDLs.

Standards Set by the DOT and CDL Truck Driving Schools
There are some other conditions that might prevent you from meeting DOT truck driving requirements. For example, individuals with sleep apnea, back injuries, or current hernias might not be able to obtain DOT clearance. The same goes for individuals who use drugs that alter the mind or the mood. Those training for careers in truck driving are expected to pass drug screening tests as well.

In addition to the requirements set by the DOT, different CDL training schools may set their own standards for accepting students. Some schools screen applicants to ensure their suitability for truck driving jobs before they accept them into their programs. At MTC Truck Driver Training, we pride ourselves on being one of the best schools for not only CDL training, but also for finding a job. Get serious about your future and apply for our truck-driver training program today!
