Illinois Truck Driver Training

At MTC Truck Driver Training, we hear from potential students living in every part of the country, including Illinois. They want to learn about our program and just what a job as a truck driver will entail. Since we want our students to come to us enthusiastic and fully prepared to begin their training, we make certain to provide them with complete answers.

One of the most common questions we hear involves the hours a truck driver may work. Though each trucking company may set its own shift requirements, there are some regulations provided by the United States Department of Transportation (DOT). These regulations require that a trucker drive no more than 11 hours and work for no more than 14, including driving time, following a 10-hour period of being off-duty. Also, if a truck driver has worked for 60 hours in the past seven days or 70 hours in the past eight, he or she must take at least 34 consecutive hours off before working again. These regulations are for the safety and protection of the truck driver and others on the road.
